A new record has been set for electricity generation in the country. Power Grid Bangladesh PLC stated that a peak of 17,200 megawatts of electricity was generated on the national grid at 9:00 PM on Wednesday.
This is the highest-ever generation record for the country’s power sector to date. The previous maximum generation record was 16,794 megawatts, which was achieved on July 23, 2025.
Officials from the Power Division noted that the country’s electricity demand is typically at its highest after evening. During the summer season, the increased use of air conditioners, fans, and other cooling appliances in the residential sector creates additional pressure on electricity during peak hours. According to them, coordination between generation capacity and supply management has been strengthened to handle the extra demand. Simultaneously, power plants are being operated at their maximum capacity to maintain the stability of the national grid.
