Following the ceasefire in the Middle East, fuel oil prices have started falling in the international market. This has also impacted the domestic market. In line with this, the price of jet fuel, the aviation fuel used in the country, has been reduced for the second time this month. This time, it has decreased by Tk 39.57 per liter. Earlier, at the beginning of the month, the price was reduced by Tk 21.63.
Following the war situation, jet fuel prices had increased by a total of Tk 107 in two phases last March, and rose by another Tk 24.79 in April.
The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) announced the new jet fuel prices in a notification on Saturday. These new rates will take effect from 12:00 AM tonight. The organization has been adjusting jet fuel prices every month since May of last year.
According to the new rates announced by BERC, the price of jet fuel per liter for domestic flights has been fixed at Tk 165.88, which was previously Tk 205.45. However, before the war began in February, this price was Tk 95.12. On the other hand, for international flights, the price of jet fuel per liter has been reduced from $1.3385 to $1.0823.
A war situation emerged across the Middle East when the conflict broke out in Iran following a joint attack by the United States and Israel on February 28. Subsequently, various energy installations in the region were damaged in retaliatory strikes by Iran, causing volatility in oil prices in the global market. However, fuel prices in the international market are on a downward trend again due to positive progress in recent peace talks.
Previously, the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) used to set jet fuel prices. Later, the interim government revoked the provision of fixing electricity and gas prices by executive order. Following this, the responsibility of determining the prices of furnace oil and Jet A-1 was given to the BERC through a gazette notification issued on September 15, 2024.
Following the issuance of the notification, the BERC organized a public hearing for the first time on March 23, 2025, to fix jet fuel prices. The process of monthly price adjustments has been ongoing since then.
