Additional Secretary Md Abdul Mannan assumed charge as the chairman of the Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation (Petrobangla) on Sunday.

The Energy and Mineral Resources Division assigned him the executive role alongside his existing duties in the planning wing.

An administrative directive from the division’s Administration-1 branch formalised the immediate appointment. The order stipulates that Mannan will oversee the state-owned corporation to ensure uninterrupted official operations until a permanent replacement is dictated.

This abrupt leadership transition follows the removal of former chairman Md Erfanul Haque last Thursday. Following his dismissal from the energy sector, government authorities attached Haque to the Ministry of Public Administration.

Haque initially secured the top position under the interim government on 5 February. His tenure was terminated after exactly three months in office.
