This information was detailed in a press release issued by the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources today, Wednesday (December 17).
The release stated that multiple illegal gas connections were discovered during the drive conducted in the Ekota Housing and Dhaka Udyan areas of Mohammadpur. According to the press release, evidence was found showing a bakery on Road 4 of Dhaka Udyan using five ovens and three star burners without authorization, consuming 1,665 cubic feet of gas daily. Consequently, the bakery’s gas connection was disconnected, and the owner was fined Tk 100,000.
Additionally, an illegal gas connection found at the New Shahjan Hotel and Restaurant in Dhaka Udyan was severed. In connection with this incident, the establishment’s owner, Md. Jamal was fined Tk 20,000.
During the operation, an approximately 150-meter-long illegal gas distribution line was dismantled on Road 2 of Ekota Housing. Through this line, gas was being illegally supplied to 90 double burners across approximately 15 houses. Various ancillary equipment used for the illegal connections, including 140 feet of GI and MS pipes, six regulators, three boosters, two star burners, and 120 feet of hose pipe, were seized during the drive.
The Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources stated that such operations will continue on a regular basis to eradicate illegal gas connections.
