During a supplementary question in parliament, Hasnat Abdullah stated that the Power and Energy Minister had issued a statement claiming there was no fuel crisis and that those visiting the pumps were receiving proper service. However, it is evident that pumps are gradually shutting down.

Today, pumps in Sylhet have shut down. There are long queues of vehicles on the roads, and people are not receiving the expected service. But the unfortunate matter is that the government is evading this issue. Instead of acknowledging the problem, the Energy Minister is sidestepping it as before.

Hasnat Abdullah asked the minister whether he could not see the long queues of vehicles, the gradual shutdown of pumps, the disruption of service operations, and the closure of schools. In this context, he wanted to know by when the minister would provide a proper solution to these problems and whether he would acknowledge the issue.

In response, Power and Energy Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud said, “The exact amount of oil that is supposed to be provided to each pump daily is being supplied to our pumps. But since the Iran incident, sales have suddenly surged.”

“As a result of the increased sales, the amount of oil we used to supply to these petrol pumps, which previously took a day or a day and a half to sell out, is now exhausted in two hours.”

“Because of this, panic buying has started among the public. The claim that lines are seen but petrol is not supplied is not true; petrol is supplied every day.”
