The Energy and Mineral Resources Division denied media reports on Friday claiming the United States granted Bangladesh a waiver to import Russian petroleum. An official press release explicitly rejected allegations regarding an impending bilateral diesel purchase.

Unverified news articles published earlier that day alleged a new 60-day special exemption took effect on 11 April 2026 and would remain active until 9 June 2026. The publications suggested authorities were drafting a proposal to procure 10 lakh tonnes of diesel from Russia under this purported arrangement.

Ministry officials stated that no authorised personnel communicated such operational plans or provided any confirmation to journalists. The division confirmed it possesses no official directives, updates, or communications concerning an American exemption for Russian fuel shipments or any imminent procurement decisions.

Authorities warned against disseminating unsubstantiated and sensitive claims attributed to government employees. Spreading such fabricated information risks generating severe confusion regarding the national energy policy and ongoing international engagements.
